1928 ACADEMY AWARD WINNER TO SCREEN AT EDISON ST / THE ORGAN LOFT MARCH 22 & 23EMIL JANNINGS OSCAR WINNING PERFORMANCEfor “The LAST COMMAND” BLAINE GALE at the WURLITZER PIPE ORGAN GARY OLDMAN at the recent 90th Academy Awards ceremony won a well deserved Oscar for his performance of Winston Churchill in “Darkest Hour“.  At the very first Oscar presentation EMIL JANNINGS was given the first Best Actor award for his stunning performances in “The LAST COMMAND” and the now lost “The Way ofAll Flesh”. Coming out at the end of the silent film era, “The Last Command” is one of the greatest films of 1928 and EMIL JANNINGS performance is a major part of that. He was widely hailed in the Silent Era as the greatest dramatic actor in the world. He plays the role of a sympathetic tyrant; an exiled Russian general turned Hollywood extra who lands a role playing a version of his former czarist self, bringing about a emotional climax to one of the last great silent films.  William Powell gives a sterling portrait of a motion picture director and also a ringleader of an infuriated mob. Evelyn Brent, the lead of Trapped by the Mormons, is excellent as the woman who influences them both.Directed by Josf von Sternberg this film features stunning cinematography.

BLAINE GALE will have the challenge of providing a great score on the mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ for one of true masterpieces of the silent cinema.
