CELEBRATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF BUSTER KEATON’S 1923 MASTERPIECE ‘OUR HOSPITALITY”
THURS. AUG. 31ST & FRIDAY SEPT. 1ST at EDISON ST / THE ORGAN LOFT with BLAINE GALE at the the MIGHTY WURLITZER THEATER PIPE ORGAN at 7:30 pm
With this his second feature film, Keaton created a historical comedy that ranks right at the top of his greatest comedies. Blaine Gale will be at Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ to create a wonderful setting for a Keaton masterpiece that ranks with his THE GENERAL, STEAMBOAT BILL, JR., THE CAMERAMAN or SHERLOCK, JR.
Appearing in “OUR HOSPITALITY” with Buster Keaton are his wife Natalie Talmadge, his father Joe Keaton and his one-year old son, Buster Keaton Jr.!
Writing about Keaton, Roger Ebert stated:
“Because he was funny, because he wore that porkpie hat, Keaton’s physical skills are often undervalued. We hear about the stunts of Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., but no silent star did more dangerous stunts than Buster Keaton. Instead of using doubles, he himself doubled for some of his actors, doing their stunts as well as his own. In “OUR HOSPITALITY” he was almost killed when a safety wire snapped and he was swept toward a waterfall [captured on film for you to see].”
Without a doubt “OUR HOSPITALITY” (1923) is a BUSTER KEATON film to celebrate. We hope that you will join us for the 100th Year Celebration.

Charlie Chaplin’s Heart-Warming Masterpiece “THE KID” Screen Nov. 2nd & 3rd at 7:30 pm.
Edison St/The Organ Loft with Blaine Gale at the Wurlitzer In 1921 Chaplin moved into feature-length
films with the making of “THE KID”. It remains one of his best loved films as he introduced the remarkable
Jackie Coogan as the orphan whom he rescues from the streets. Chaplin and Coogan are pure
magic as they appear together in this heart- warming masterpiece.
Blaine Gale will provide the musical score on the wonderful Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ using
themes written by Chaplin himself. This is “a picture with a smile—and perhaps a
tear.” In the process of making “The Kid,” Chaplin integrated slapstick comedy with high drama for
the first time in a feature-length comedy. He devoted18 months to the filming after discovering Jackie
Coogan — and together they created a masterpiece!
