COMEDY CLASSIC SERIES CONTINUES
At Edison St/THE ORGAN LOFT as
MADBEL NORMAND LIGHTS UP THE
SCREEN January 23rd & 24th at 7:30pm

Mabel Normand was one of the comedy greats of early film.
In an era when women were deemed ’not funny enough’ it
seems film history has forgotten her contributions. Her films
debuted the Keystone Cops, Charlie Chaplin’s tramp and the
pie in the face gag. Mabel co-starred with all the early greats.
She was the only comedian to work with Charlie Chaplin,
Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, Mack Sennett, D.W. Griffith, Harold
Lloyd, Mary Pickford, Hal Roach, Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, etc.
About the only one that she didn’t have a chance to work with
was Buster Keaton.
When Mack Sennett’s Keystone Comedies began all of
Sennett’s early ideas seemed to revolve around Normand. By
1912 Normand was writing her own films and by 1914 she was
directing her films. She was one of the stars of the very first
full length comedy, TILLIE’S PUNCTURED ROMANCE along
with Marie Dressler, Charlie Chaplin and Mack Swain.
Mabel Normand’s popularity led her to producing and
starring in a number of feature-length comedies that included
 “The EXTRA GIRL
In this 1923 comedy Mabel Norman plays a small town girl
who wants to be a motion picture star. She wins a contract
when a photo of a very pretty girl is sent tot he studio instead
of her picture. When she arrives in Hollywood the fun begins!

“GIRL SHY” @ Edison Street Events
Feb 6 @ 7:30 pm

Thursday and Friday , February 6th & 7th at 7:30 pm.  Grab your sweetheart and come experience the perfect  Valentine Movie.

                   Harold LLoyd in  “GIRL SHY”.

Edison St/The Organ Loft audiences are in for a realtreat as Harold Lloyd joins with Jobyna Ralston in theperfect pre-Valentine comedy “GIRL SHY”. Harold Lloyd is best known for his physical comedyand his daredevil “thrill pictures”, and for good reason. Just as important a part of his appeal, though, is that there is often a genuine sweetness to his movies, and a great deal of chemistry with his leading ladies. Most slapstick comedies from this period have a girl for love interest, but it’s perfunctory. With “Girl Shy”, though  Harold Lloyd makes a romantic comedy worthy of the title as well as providing more thrills then the Ben-Hur chariot race.

With BLAINE GALE at the WURLITZER THEATRE PIPE ORGAN this is one film not to be missed!

“Tramp Tramp Tramp” @ Edison Street Events
Mar 12 @ 7:30 pm

March 12th & 13th at 7:30 pm. You are going to Laugh Laugh Laugh to Harry Langdon in “Tramp Tramp Tramp.  Blaine Gale with live accompaniment on the Mighty Wurlitzer.

The comedy line-up continues at Edison St/The Organ Loft with BLAINE GALE at the keyboard of the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ as HARRY LANGDON brings laughter to the screen as he seeks to win the heart of his dream girl, JOAN CRAWFORD by entering a race, hoping for the $25,000 grand prize and to put a ring on the girl. For a time HARRY LANGDON ranked in popularity that threatened
to top Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd & Buster Keaton. Langdon’s  wide-eyed innocence, sleepy smile, and surreal pathos probably had a longer lasting latent influence than most of the silent clowns. Stan Laurel, Jacques Tati, Steve Martin, Andy Kaufman, and Paul Ruebens are among those indebted to Langdon’s screen persona.
In TRAMP, TRAMP, TRAMP Harry falls in love with the girl on the billboard (Joan Crawford) for Brandon shoes and enters a cross country walking race to win the prize. This is a charming and engaging comedy that is a perfect introduction to one of the great forgotten clowns.

“SEVEN CHANCES” @ Edison Street Events
Sep 10 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

The long wait for an opportunity to return to EDISON STREET / THE ORGAN LOFT for a classic movie with BLAINE GALE at the Wurlitzer Theatre Organ is almost over. Looking forward to scheduling one of the wonderful BUSTER KEATON comedies from 1925: “SEVEN CHANCES”. DVD Savant writes: “Perhaps what makes great silent comedy so special is the sheer difficulty in describing why it’s so funny. The audience which I’ve seen “SEVEN CHANCES” watched the first few minutes with patient interest and soon thereafter became completely hooked by the crazy fantasy on screen. I have never, not even at a sporting event, seen more audience emotion than at Keaton screenings. . . the contagious laughter grows like an animal separate from the audience itself, until you forget everything except, you’re having the time of your life and laughing like a baby. Even the organ accompaniment was almost drowned out by the audience.” Now after what we all have been through this past year doesn’t that sound like something to look forward to experiencing!  BLAINE GALE will have a delightful organ score for this presentation which will include not only SEVEN CHANCES but also BUSTER KEATON’s exceptional short comedy, ONE WEEK.    September 9th & 10th is the date to look forward and plan for. Please spread the word.

“THE FRESHMAN” @ Edison Street Events
Sep 23 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Thursday & Friday September 23rd & 24th at 7:30 pm your are in for a Treat as Edison Street/Organ Loft present Blaine Gale at the Mighty Wurlitzer providing a fun- filled live score to one of the BEST comedies. Harold Lloyd & Jobyna Ralston in  “THE FRESHMAN”  (1925)  We are pleased to screen “Harold Lloyd’s most famous film as he finds himself an erstwhile Ivy Leaguer  at a Southern University, where he struggles to make the football team.  Lloyd’s films are prose where Keaton’s were poems, but gag for gag, Lloyd was the funniest  screen comic of his time.  The Freshman is quintessential Harold Lloyd.  A near perfect Silent Comedy- endearing, funny, warm.  NOT TO BE MISSED!
